William, unprovoked, allegedly struck Moses on the head with a revolver. A $1,000 reward was offered for the apprehension of said William Oxford.

"On the 26 of July 1842, Elijah Holly was murdered by Arthur Mock in Pulaski County. Mock is about 45 years old, grey hair, about 5 ft. 2 inches tall, slender made, walks very erect, amibly dark complexion, large and dark eyes, has a small scar on his left cheek, weighs about 134 lbs., and is a gunsmith or blacksmith."

"In November last, a murder was committed against a man suppos[e]dly named Elias M. Isaac by J. W. Coles and John John Dickerson in Jones County...Cowles is 5 ft. 7 or 8 inches tall, very trim built, well made, very active, and upright in his walk. He is travelling the country as a juggler and ventriloquist and is a native of Connecticut. His real name is Julius Williams Cowles but frequently goes by the name of Williams, then by the name of Cowles or Cole and by spelling the name backwards, takes the name of Selwoc. Dickerson is tall, low legged, very stout man, has a fair complexion, light hair, blue or light eyes, broad shoulders, has two double teeth on the upper jaws in front, and chews tobacco very much." Hair Inclined to Curl

"On Thursday the 19th instant, Swafford Stallsworth was murdered in Jones County by James Holliday. Holliday is 5 ft., 11 inches tall, spare made, 40 years old, light complexion, sandy hair inclined to curl, and with a large scar on his jaw." "On the 2d instant, John Hatcher was murdered in Twiggs County by Joseph Sawyer, and Winfield Moore murdered Claborn Forehand in Burke County on 8 January last. Sawyer is about 5 ft., 8 or 10 inches tall, dark complexion, bald, a down look and rather thin visage. Moore is about 35 years old, 5 ft., 9 or 10 inches tall, tolerably slender built, thin visage, and fair hair." From 8 May 1834 Macon Messenger:
Unfortunate at Marion, Twiggs Co. on Friday 2nd inst., a dispute occured between two men, John Hatcher and Joseph Sawyer, when Hatcher rubbed his fist in Sawyer's face; upon which the latter struck his antagonist several blows on the head
with a heavy walking stick - Hatcher was completely stunned, and never regained his reasons afterwards. He died of his wounds on Monday 5th. inst. Intemperance has thus added another to its many crimes, for it was indeed the cause of this unhappy event. Both men had families.

A $200 reward was offered for the apprehension of Sawyer.

Ebenezer and Benjamin Murdered 2 Slaves

"Ebenezer Z. Duffy and Benjamin Downing of Jones County murdered two Negro slaves, Jane and Moses, belonging to Ebenezer Duffy. Downing has been arrested but Duffy has fled." (September 1826)

Ebenezer was eventually caught and convicted. He was sentenced to 5 years in the Georgia penitentiary for voluntary manslaughter. He only served about 5 months.

He was 25 years of age, over 6 feet tall, had a fair complexion, black hair, and hazel eyes. Alexander was pardoned 1851. Jessie Bancomb was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Pulaski County about May 1850. He was sentenced to 3 years in the Georgia penitentiary. Jessie, a wheelwright, was born in North Carolina. He was 41 years of age, over 5 feet 10 inches tall, had a fair complexion, dark hair, and grey eyes. Jessie was pardoned October 1850. George J. Baker was convicted of larceny from house in Bibb County in 1850. He was sentenced to 4 years in the Georgia penitentiary. George, born in Virginia, was 32 years of age. Joseph Kelley was convicted of simple larceny in Talbot County in 1849. He was sentenced to 4 years in the Georgia penitentairy. Joseph, a cabinet maker, was born in England. He was 31 years of age, over 5 feet 9 inches tall, had dark complexion, black hair, and black eyes. Joseph was pardoned 1851. John Carter was convicted of assault to murder in Bibb County in 1849. He was sentenced to 5 years in the Georgia penitentiary. John, a blacksmith, was born in South Carolina. He was 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches tall, had a dark complexion, dark hair, and dark eyes. John was pardoned 1851. This was his second sentence. Thomas Roberts was convicted of simple larceny in Bibb County in 1847. He was sentenced to 4 years in the Georgia penitentiary. Thomas, a farmer, was born in Georgia. He was 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches tall, had a dark complexion, black hair, and black eyes. Thomas died 8 March 1849.

James Dowlan was convicted of simple larceny in Bibb County in 1847. He was sentenced to 3 years in the Georgia penitentiary. James, a gardner, was born in Ireland. He was 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches tall, had a dark complexion, dark hair, and black eyes. James was pardoned a couple of weeks before his sentence was set to expire.

James F. L. Lumpkin, age 20, was convicted of stealing from U. S. mail in 1847. He was sentenced to 15 years in the Georgia penitentiary. James was born in Georgia. He died 18 March 1849.
